Often when we encounter the word "hybrid" we think of plants crossbred in a nursery, but this is one of those special few that hybridize nature: in this case, the southern Philippines between species P. aphrodite and P. equestris! Such 'natural-hybrids' have an "x" preceding their name: hence x intermedia.
The plants offered here are first-bloom seedlings by selfing-propagation**. These bright white flowers are typically two and a half inches wide, with gently arching stems that often branch, and grows from miniature foliage. The resulting orchid is a lovely blend between the species of its lineage and, of course, best described as "intermediate" between the two!
** "Selfing" propagation is done by pollinating a flower with its' own pollen. While the resulting seedling offspring strongly resemble the self-pollinated flower they are technically unique, possibly with some variation in precise color, size, or markings.
Established blooming-size seedlings.
