Dendrobium anosum
Dendrobium anosum
The beautiful pink-purple flowers of Dendrobium anosum let us know that Spring is finally here! This species is beloved by our Filipino and Hawaiian customers, who know it as "sanggumay" and as "hono-hono", respectively, and remember its beauty and fragrance from their hometowns. The complex fragrance reminds us of entering an expensive candle or soap store. It is a species that likes it Wintertime temperatures 'just so': mildly cool. Not warm, not cold, but 'just so'. For this species to thrive and bloom it must be provided with this mild cool Winter, when home heating is often too warm and even Southern Californian Winter is too cold; providing this mildly cool Winter is the trick for success with this plant!

One determined SoCal customer of ours, born in Hawaii, figured out that her hono-hono bloomed best if for the winter-half of the year it grew in an attached closed garage, near a closed window!
Please note that like most deciduous Dendrobiums this plant must be provided a 'Winter drought period', when it is allowed to dry out completely between light waterings.

Established blooming size seedlings. 'Seedlings' are the offspring of pollination; as siblings they may be similar, yet each is unique and no two are identical in precise color or shape.

Intermediate growing. May blooming.
