Often when we encounter the word "hybrid" we think of plants crossbred in a nursery, but this plant is one of those special few that hybridize in their natural habitat! This natural hybrid occurs between P. aphrodite and P. equestris in the southern Philipines. Orchids that are 'natural hybrids' have an "x" preceding their name: hence x intermedia.
The plants offered here are first-bloom seedlings of a cross we did between natural hybrid siblings of Phalaenopsis x intermedia. The flowers are white and the inflorescences arch gently, like P. aphrodite, with more miniature foliage similar to P. equestris. The resulting orchid is, of course, best described as intermediate between the two!
Established blooming-size seedlings. 'Seedlings' are the offspring of pollination; as siblings these may be very similar, yet each seedling is unique and no two seedlings are identical in exact color or shape.
Intermediate growing. October-November blooming. Species from Philippines.
