We are so honored to offer the revised edition of Lou C. Menezes' long out-of print book, "Laelia purpurata", which will world premiere at our 2009 Orchid Fair (July 10-12) at Earl Warren Showgrounds, Santa Barbara, California. The revised edition contains 243 colorful pages, about 100 more than the first edition, devoted to this showy Brazilian species. Bilingual in Portuguese and English.

A rare color type of this showy species from Brazil. Offered here are seedlings from a sibling cross of two of our most free-blooming sanguinea types. Laelia purpurata 'Miss Scarlet'
A beautiful tinted semi-alba form of the "Queen of Brazilian Summer". Sepals and petals are white with a light magenta hue and a saturated magenta lip. Overall plant height is approximately two feet. This species has been moved to the genus Cattleya by Kew and is accepted as such by the American Orchid Society. Temperature Tolerant. July blooming. Species from Brazil.

Laelia purpurata (var flamea X var striata)
Most of the seedlings to bloom thus far from this cross have had flowers with great petal striation and flaming, vivid purple lips, and good size (over 6 inches). While most hobbyists grow this species in their intermediate greenhouse, we have all ours in the unheated shadehouse along with the cymbidiums and they just thrive. Temperature Tolerant. June - July blooming. Species from Brazil.
